SKIN PEEL FAQS

Here are the many FAQ’s we have regarding the process of skin peels. If you have any further questions feel free to ask our expert team.

APPLYING THE CHEMICAL PEEL

Prior to applying the chemical peel the skin will be doubly cleansed using an appropriate cleanser for your skin type and the peel being used. Then the skin will be degreased before the peel is applied so that all the oil and debris are removed to enable the peel to penetrate properly.bThe chemical peel will be left on for the appropriate time period and then removed using the application of a neutralising solution (some acids are self neutralising) and aftercare products may be applied. You may feel warmth, stinging, itching or a burning sensation over the area being treated and the use of a cooling fan may be used for your comfort. The sensations will stop once the peel is over yet at any time the peel can be stopped.

WHAT ABOUT AFTERCARE?

Recommended skin care products should be used and it is particularly important to keep the skin hydrated. Until the skin is completely healed avoid. Sweating Exercising Hot baths, showers, saunas or hot tubs Scrubbing, picking or rubbing the skin which could lead to scarring Retinol or AHA products for at least 10 day. You must use an SPF 30+ daily to protect the skin from direct sunlight for a minimum of three days yet it would be advisable to continue to use for the next six months.

PRE-CONDITIONING THE SKING PRIOR TO A CHEMICAL PEEL

It is important to pre-condition the skin prior to a chemical peel by using professionally prescribed products in a home care regime to allow for optimum skin condition. Skin that is in balance with a hydrated epidermis, a healthy dermis and suppressed melanocytes will sting less, respond with less irritation and not react with hyperpigmentation. This will be fully discussed and recommendations made at the consultation visit.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

These may include mild redness, itching, occasional swelling and tightness, peeling and scabbing of the skin. Usually, with superficial peels you will not peel excessively, there may be patches of dryness or flakiness. With stronger concentrations of acids peeling would occur approximately at 3-5 days.

THE RESULTS

The time scale varies with some people seeing results early, around 5 days, for others it may be longer. Yet the appearance of the treated skin will have a more youthful texture with a uniform coloration that will blend with their untreated skin. New skin will appear radiant and fine lines will be diminished.

SOPRANO ICE PLATINUM FAQS

Here are the common questions we get asked about the Soprano Ice Platinum machine. If you have any further questions feel free to ask our expert team.

IS A PATCH TEST REQUIRED?

It is 100% necessary to patch test before a laser hair removal treatment, even if you have had laser hair removal elsewhere. The procedure allows us to check that your skin is suitable for laser hair removal and will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. A general inspection of your skin will take place and then a small area will be exposed to the laser light. In addition to ensuring no adverse reactions occur, this also provides us with the opportunity to tailor the machine’s settings to your personal requirements.

WHAT ABOUT AFTERCARE?

After the laser treatment avoid heat such as hot baths or showers, saunas, and steam rooms. Avoid sun exposure for 1 week after treatment and avoid sunbeds throughout your treatment course. Avoid vigorous exercise and swimming as the chemicals in the water may cause irritation.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TREATMENTS?

6 to 8 treatments are recommended to achieve optimum results with some stronger hair growth areas such as the face and private area possibly needing more treatments. Facial laser hair treatments should be every 4 weeks for the first 4 treatments then every 4-6 weeks thereafter. Body laser hair removal treatments are performed every 6 weeks for the first 4 treatments then every 6-8 weeks after that.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE TREATED?

At The Cosmetic Clinic, our skilled team of beauty practitioners can use laser skin tightening technology to treat a range of conditions. For instance, if you have sagging jowls, this method can be used to tighten the loose skin along the neck and jawline.

Likewise, laser skin tightening can be used to improve the appearance of sagginess around the eye area, reduce the appearance of marionette lines and nasolabial folds. Overall skin texture is also dramatically improved using this method.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

The beauty of laser skin tightening is that it can be used to treat a wide range of areas, including:

✔ Face ✔ Neck ✔ Décolleté ✔ Chest ✔ Upper Arms ✔ Abdomen ✔ Knees and Elbows

DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL HURT?

The Soprano Ice Platinum system is virtually pain free. Most clients only experience a gentle warming sensation in the area being treated with some feeling a very mild pins and needles sensation also.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

The Soprano Ice Platinum system is one of the safest on the market. Rather than delivering all the laser energy in shots such as with traditional laser systems, the applicator is passed back and forth over the area to be treated so that energy and warmth builds up over a few seconds. After treatment in rare cases, you may experience mild redness or slight sensitivity. Aloe Vera gel is excellent to calm and soothe the skin.

AM I SUTABLE FOR LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

The Soprano Ice Platinum system is suitable for all skin tones and emits 3 different laser light wavelengths to target the widest possible range of hair colours. However as lasers target the melanin pigment, pale ginger, white or grey hair will not be affected by the laser. We can only treat clients who are aged 18 and over.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE BEFORE A TREATMENT?

Apart from shaving, avoid any other hair removal methods such as waxing, threading or hair removal creams for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment. Avoid sun exposure for 1 week and sunbeds or any kind of fake tan for 2 weeks. You should thoroughly shave areas to be treated or patch tested around 8 hours before your visit. Skin must be hair and stubble free for the laser to be operated safely.

WHEN CAN YOU EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS?

Results usually come in two stages – immediate and progressive. Immediate results can be observed following the very first session. Progressive changes will start to occur as new collagen is formed and the skin gradually tightens up. In some cases, this can take just one month, whereas in other cases, it can take up to three months or longer.

So long as laser skin tightening treatments are maintained, results should last indefinitely. Please note that, in order to maintain long-lasting results, a top-up skin tightening treatment must be booked in once every 6-8 weeks.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?

We will determine the total number of treatments during your initial consultation. While we usually recommend a course of six treatments, this will ultimately depend on the area and condition being treated. Treatments are usually carried out in intervals of 2-3 weeks (no more than 4 weeks) with maintenance treatments usually required at a later date.

BOTOX® is a naturally purified protein that works as a muscle relaxant. It’s often prescribed by doctors in the UK to treat medical conditions such as chronic migraines, eyelid spasms, and even hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating in the armpits, hands and feet).

HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST?

You may need to repeat treatment approximately every 3-4 months over a 12-month period to maintain your fresh and natural appearance. Clinical trials report that some patients who’ve had treatment over 12 months only need further treatments once or twice the following year. Your medical practitioner will give you all the advice you need.

HOW LONG DOES BOTOX TAKE TO WORK?

It normally takes 5-7 days for BOTOX® injections to work. At The Cosmetic Clinic, we believe in helping you look great for your age in a completely natural and subtle way. We usually obtain good results after just a single injection.

WHERE DOES BOTOX COME FROM?

BOTOX® is a drug made from Clostridium botulinum bacterium. The BOTOX® injection is a purified protein derived from the toxin and is used in both medical and cosmetic procedures to treat conditions such as: Chronic migraine, Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), Overactive bladder, Smoothing of wrinkles.

IS BOTOX VEGAN?

BOTOX® does not contain any animal products. However, like most pharmaceuticals, there is a brief period of animal testing to ensure the treatment is safe for human use.

DOES BOTOX HURT?

Many people find their procedure at The Cosmetic Clinic more comfortable than expected. That’s because our medical practitioners are so highly skilled and precise; you should merely feel a mild sting on your skin that only lasts seconds. The procedure is simple to perform. Some people may experience slight bruising from the anti-wrinkle injections, but this will go away.

IS BOTOX SAFE?

BOTOX® has an excellent safety profile with over 2.5 million users to date across the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany. The doses are very small and the risks are minimal. If any do occur, they’re temporary and just mild to moderate. We cannot stress enough how important is it for BOTOX® injections to be performed by doctors and nurses with appropriate qualifications and expertise in a clinical setting.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

Treatment usually takes around 20 minutes. If there’s a little bruising, you can easily camouflage it with makeup. There is no downtime and you can resume normal activities right away.  DERMAPLANING FAQS

Here are the common questions we get asked about the dermaplaning process. If you have any further questions please contact our expert team!

HOW OFTEN IS DERMAPLANING PERFORMED?

Dermaplaning is usually performed every three to four weeks. It is good to have the skin complete its normal rejuvenation cycle, which is thirty days, before going back and having the treatment done. The procedure generally will remove between two to three weeks of dead skin from the facial area.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is safe and effective for all skin types and colours and provides an alternative to chemical peels or microdermabrasion. It is a good choice for anyone who has fine facial hair, extremely sensitive skin, redness or rosacea or visible facial veins. Dermaplaning cannot be performed on individuals who are using Accutane or blood thinners or who have active shingles, haemophilia, or weak delicate skin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Sometimes after dermaplaning, the skin will end up peeling slightly. This normally only happens when there is not enough time in between treatments to let the hair’s growth cycle be completed. This is why it is important to leave enough time between visits to get the best results. There is no need to worry about the hair on your face getting any darker. Since dermaplaning only targets the vellus hair (peachfuzz) the hair will grow back the same size and coloUr. It is physiologically impossible for the hair to grow back thicker and dark, so no need to panic!

CAN DERMAPLANING BE PERFORMED IN
THE SAME VISIT AS A PEEL?

A peel done immediately after Dermaplaning is an excellent way to make sure that the peel penetrates deeper and more evenly. They go great together and we recommend the combination for optimal results.

IS DERMAPLANING RECOMMENDED FOR ACNE SKIN?

If you suffer from active acne or overproduction of oil then we don’t recommend Dermaplaning. For acne-prone skin, we recommend peels, which are other forms of exfoliation and will clear and balanced the skin to control sebaceous activity and decrease the formation of acne lesions.

HOW OFTEN CAN DERMAPLANING BE PERFORMED?

Dermaplaning can be performed every 3-4 weeks.
